Yesterday's server update for Battlefield 3 means many of its online problems could be a thing of the past.

A post from DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson on Battlefield 3's blog details the fixes and refinements, mostly revolving around server-side issues DICE is encountering with the game.

These include:

QUICK MATCH FUNCTIONALITY: DICE has "seen a big increase in quick match functionality on consoles" since rolling out a server patch earlier this week. The developer says players "should now be able to join a quick match the majority of times without any issues."
JOINING SQUADS AND STAYING THERE: Some players have experienced difficulties joining and staying in squads. DICE has "identified the cause of this problem and will hopefully have a fix ready to roll out very soon."
LAG AND RUBBER BANDING: A bug in Battlefield 3's network code has caused some users to experience issues with lag and rubber banding, especially on Tehran Highway and Caspian Border in Conquest. DICE is "positive" this latest fix will help clear up the situation.
HARDCORE SERVER AVAILABILITY: "We know you love your hardcore mode," says DICE, and the developer has "identified and eliminated the problem that made our hardcore servers disappear after being live for a set period of time." More Hardcore servers should now be available to join.
DEFAULT REGION SETTING IN SERVER BROWSER: Some players, mostly in the US, have had the default region incorrectly set to Europe. "This will be fixed shortly," said DICE, and suggests affected players use the in-game server browser.
GAME STABILITY: Yesterday's server patch made "numerous fixes" to overall game stability - DICE claims to have eliminated two of the most frequent crashes.
ORIGIN INSTALLATION AND AUTHENTICATION ISSUES: PC users suffering problems relating to EA's digital platform Origin might be happy to know that the next update is scheduled for early November and promises to "fix most of the problems that people have experienced".
